Subject: Microphone history and development, production & Application
Featured Guest: Karl Winkler
Karl Winkler, Sennheiser's Director of Marketing Communications, will be our June guest. His job includes coordinating all communications
and advertising for the company brands: Sennheiser (microphones, wireless systems and headphones), Neumann (microphones), Innovason (digital consoles),
and True Systems (mic preamplifiers). Karl graduated in 1988 with a degree in musical performance (viola) and later earned a certificate in audio engineering
with a focus on electronics. Before joining Sennheiser, Karl worked as an audio engineer with the US Air Force Band in Washington, DC. His talk will
cover the historical background of microphone development, microphone engineering, manufacturing, applications, and techniques. His Power Point presentation
will include photographs, audio clips and discussions. Karl will bring examples of different microphone types to illustrate design and to demonstrate
how they can be used best. Karl has encountered the problems of all dedicated recording engineers including the tedious task of selecting the right
microphone, and because he is also a musician, he has seen both sides of the recording booth.
Sennheiser was incorporated in 1945 and today distributes
a wide range of products worldwide. Sennheiser is a privately held company based in Germany, and in 1991, purchased Neumann.
Their Sennheiser
HD-600 Headphone and its predecessor were awarded "Stereophile's Product of the Year".
