March 2012

Date: Sunday, March 25, 2012, 6:00 PM

Place: Boston University, Life Science & Engineering Bldg, 24 Cummington St.
Room: 103, Boston, MA 02215

Featured Guests: Charlie Repka, Recording Engineer, Past President NYC Audio Society, & AES Member

Topic: Recording Tips, Microphone Setup, and Solving Acoustical Problems

Charlie Repka will talk about his days at Vanguard, working on Video Disc, and the broadcast media. He will include demonstrations and cures for typical problems found in live concert recordings. As a lover of simple microphone techniques, he will describe the minimalist approach, play examples of live concert recordings, and demonstrate software tricks that eliminate acoustical problems. He will also playback examples from his CD-R's via a Sound Devices USBPre. According to a BAS member familiar with his recording skills, "…they're exceptionally natural sounding recordings with heart stopping low bass."

There will be refreshments at 5:30.
